In swirls and ribbons

Sometimes when you dream something hard enough, the thoughts materialise themselves into reality. The right people show up out of the blue and give you clarity, the right call comes just when you need it most, an opportunity puts itself right down in front of you. All of these things and more have left the last few weeks in a constant state of creativity overload, inspiring and driving, sucking me through a vortex of excitement.

Part of that has been the constant measure of art and advertising and looking for opportunities that were always there but just had to be grasped. Somewhere in the middle of that is this campaign, done to launch the Nike Free Run+ 2 City Pack series.

A collaboration between Nike, YesYesNo (an interactive projects company) and DualForces, software was developed allowing runners to create dynamic paintings with their feet – or more specifically their Nike+ GPS run data.
Over a two day workshop, participants recorded their runs and then fed these details into unique software. The output? A gorgeous visual based on the speed, consistency, and style – unique to each person. Taking personalisation one step further, each participant was given a customised shoebox - laser etched with their name, distance run and run path – containing a pair of City Pack shoes from their city of origin.

Nike City Pack is a collection of unique LunarGlide2+ designs that celebrate the world’s greatest running cities, and all those who charge through them.

It's amazing how some things stick in your mind so vivid, more than others, and all it takes is a tiny spark to set off the chain reaction that conjours up a time past. But where do those spirals backwards take you? To a different moment now, and a different path for the future? Whatever that journey, nothing detracts from that single moment. This season, We Are Handsome draws on special moments - a catalyst for taking you into the smallest pockets of your imagination and your memory, and lets them play out in the now. Beauty

Someone once told me that you can't love everything, you can't love the world. It's an interesting balance in the context of this current little moment. Ask those around me who are making their two a one and they might tend to disagree. For those twos that will be a future it's an exciting time and I am on watch for the tiny touches that might make things that little bit more special.

For one beautiful bride I am playing spotto on jewels and as a seriously gorgeous type, wearing designer on a rival frame, she could pull any type of style off. Recently I stumbled on these - adding an interesting element to what will be an unbelievable and unique day.

In my world, gold can do no wrong. The purest of metals which glimmers and and heals and purifies and balances energy. Gold encourages well being and health. Which is funny. Because copper does exactly the same - calming tiredness and restlessness. Which is what I need going into a five day long weekend. And Kim Ellery sure knows how to transfix you into that mood.

Ellery Spring/Summer 11.12 is a juxtaposition between serene and fierce. Its exudes femininity within its structured lines by utilising flowing fabric. I loved looking at these while being saturated in the sound of Burial, Four Tet and Thom Yorke "Ego". And I want to be saturated in this collection for winter.

Freedom to Move

Try as I might but tight ain't right. Maybe 50/50 but never all out. And Peter Pilotto seems to agree. Clothes cut with a chance to move - panels, pleats and feather-light skirts, intricate sill-screen-print patterns tied in with clean yet complex lines. Reminiscent of '70s YSL (an inspiration) these clothes are made to collect and wear.

The best part of the collection however, are the shoes. Collaboration II with Nicholas Kirkwood, the range includes artist Donald Judd inspired sculptural heels - hollowed out, metal with lacquered finished inside minimal sculptures. Leather straps and Pilotto's incredible graphic prints - these are the things that dreams are made of.

Helmut my Helmut

There are staples. Staples that keep you on the straight path and narrow. Things that you rely on to give yourself a degree of sense and reality. The things that you go back too, time and time and time again.

Designer purchase numero uno was a pair of Helmut Lang jeans. It was 2000, when everyone was wearing denim blue Lee bootleg but mine where midnight blue, trimmed in along the legs (making them as cigarette as possible) rendered eternally relevant and destroyed with love.

Lang holds a place in my heart and the Spring Summer 11 collection reminds me again why that is the case. Classic minimalism, mostly mono with focus on cut and quality, it doesn't get much better than Lang.

Slack

I'll admit it. I've been slack. Beavering away in an online hell hole leaving me cross-eyed and not bushy tailed. But somewhere in the mix I managed to celebrate a birthday in the best way possible. This year I was given the best gift ever. Insight. Insight into what makes being me awesome. It involved real friends, great food, laughter. It involved hugs, and real wishes said with sincerity. It involved self awakening that time has flown and I've grown with it. Here are some of the things that made my day/week/month a highlight and a pleasure and I send a million thanks to the universe for smiling down and blessing me a million times over.

Slowly. One. Two. No, it's not right. Shut. Breath. Slowly. One. Two. Shut. Open. Breath. And then it hits you and sucks you back, whipping past hour and hour, suddenly slowing near the start. Shut. Unfolding back through the night, this time walking past the memories. The events that made it what it was. Knowing that something changed. Maybe for the best. Maybe it was so surreal that you had no control and you had to throw yourself into it and you got caught up in it all and you wanted to be there and do that, but maybe you weren't ready. But knowing that unless you let it all happen, you will never run and take the leap. And no words can explain how it felt or what it meant to those that were not there. Try as you might, it's a bubble, a memory that only those that saw it, both through their own eyes but also through the eyes of someone looking down and watching from the sidelines, will remember.

Just like that the season's changed.
